John Canavan

CGCS - Certified Golf Course Superintendent

John Canavan, golf course superintendent for The ACE Club, has been employed on the property for more than thirty years.  John is one of the original staff members of the club as he was involved in the planning and oversaw the subsequent construction of the golf course.

Beginning as a foreman in 1982 for Eagle Lodge Country Club, the predecessor to The ACE Club, John became the assistant superintendent in 1987.  John developed an interest in golf course management and golf while attending the W.B. Saul High School of Agricultural Sciences in Philadelphia, PA.  He was promoted to golf course superintendent for Eagle Lodge in 1994 and was responsible for developing it into one of the region's best conditioned golf course.    
John is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University's noted turfgrass management program.  He is a Class A member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.  He achieved the designation of Certified Golf Course Superintendent and recently fulfilled the requirements to retain his certification for the fourth time.  John is also a member of the Philadelphia Association of Golf Course Superintendents and the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council.                                          

John steered The ACE Club through the process of becoming the first golf course in Pennsylvania  to be designated a Certified Silver Signature Sanctuary by Audubon International in 2004. Canavan resides in Erdenheim, Pennsylvania with his wife and their four children.
